Migration Study (2013)

for string trio with optional live electronics (for Chartreuse)

The structure is a series of games whose basic pitch set is derived from the strings of the traditional Norwegian Hardanger fiddle. The piece is extremely interactive; much of its direction and content comes from the choices we make as individuals and as a group. Picture a large flock of birds (particularly starlings) wheeling and fluttering near-synchronously on the collective whim of the moment.
